Good News Series # 2:
The Purpose
God Created Man to Glorify God by Loving Him Above All
God Created Man to Glorify God by Loving Him Above All
God is the most glorious Being in the whole universe for He is perfect in all that He is, perfect in all that He does and He is the only one perfect God. Being perfect, God has also made man with a perfect purpose, namely, to glorify God by loving Him above all.
This second lesson of the Good News Series presents three important truths regarding God’s ultimate purpose for man. May these truths help you clearly see and better appreciate the main reason why God made you.
Genesis 1:26 'Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”'
The verbal phrase “let us make” is in plural form, signifying more than one person is involved in the creation of man. This is one of the many verses in the Bible that supports the doctrine of the Trinity—one God but exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Isaiah 43:7 'Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” '
To glorify God is to magnify God for who He is; it is showing and proclaiming to others how great and how good God is.
Mark 12:30 'And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.'
To love God is to worship God. It is valuing God above all and making Him the greatest satisfaction of your whole being. Moreover, it involves knowing, desiring, admiring, fearing, enjoying, trusting, treasuring, and proclaiming God for who He is (Luke 14:26; John 17:3; Psa 73:25-26; Phil 4:4; Prov 3:5-6; Matt 13:44; Hab 3:17-18; Psa 34:8).
God is most glorified when He is loved most because it shows that He is indeed better, greater, and more precious than all others.
The next truth will explain more why God is worthy to be loved above all.
The reason why God should be loved by man above all is because God is worthy to be loved above all. God is the greatest, the highest, the strongest, the wisest, the purest, the fairest, the wealthiest, the sweetest, the happiest, the humblest, the holiest, the loveliest, the rarest and the best, thus, the worthiest to be loved above anyone and anything else.
Before Christ stated the greatest commandment in Mark 12:30 He first mentioned in Mark 12:29 the foundation of the greatest commandment – the worthiness of God to be loved above all. Mark 12:29 contains three main reasons why God is worthy to be loved above all.
Mark 12:29 'Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one.'
The word ‘LORD’ is translated from the Hebrew word YAHWEH’ (Hebrew is the original language of the Bible in the Old Testament). Basically, YAHWEH means that God is Self-existent, Self-sufficient, and Eternal. God being eternal means that He has no beginning and ending. He is a person who never changes; never growing, never deteriorating. He is right now as powerful, wise, happy, holy, awesome, gracious, and loving as even before time ever existed.
Mark 12:29 'Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one.'
The word ‘God’ is translated from the Hebrew word “Elohim” which basically means Creator, Sustainer, and Ruler of all things.
As Creator, God lacks nothing. He cannot be deficient or defective. Thus, He does not function in relation to His creation out of necessity but always out of His overflowing sufficiency. God did not create the universe—including man, out of loneliness or lack of pleasure. Rather, He made everything out of His overflowing wisdom, power, love, holiness, and happiness (Romans 11:36; Revelation 4:11; Psalm 16:11).

3. What is the most beautiful place that you have been to?
4. If God’s creation is beautiful, what does it tell us about God, the Creator?
✔ God is far more beautiful
Mark 12:29 'Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one.'
Having learned that God is the only LORD God, put a check inside the box if you agree with the statement:
[ ] God is most worthy to be known [ ] to be admired [ ] to be desired
[ ] to be enjoyed [ ] to be feared [ ] to be trusted [ ] to be valued
[ ] to be treasured [ ] to be praised & [ ] to be proclaimed [ ] above anyone else & anything else
[ ] because He is the best Being & [ ] the most satisfying Reality [ ] in the whole universe.
1 Corinthians 10:31 'Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.'
1 Corinthians 16:14 'Let all that you do be done with love.'
Deuteronomy 6:24 'And the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that He might preserve us alive, as it is this day.'
Matthew 5:48 'Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.'
James 2:10 'For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. '
God created man with the greatest purpose, namely, to love the best Being in the whole universe. However, man failed to love Him perfectly. Man rebelled against God and has chosen to love things in this world more than God (John 3:19; Jeremiah 2:13). The good news is, God sent His only Son to be man’s Savior. Through Jesus Christ man can be reconciled to God and have a love-relationship again with God (Deuteronomy 30:6; 1 Peter 3:18; Romans 5:8-11; John 17:24-26).
One of the evidences of being a genuine Christian is love for God. How is your love-relationship with Him? Do you live according to the purpose God has for you? if you have already started a love-relationship with God through repentance and faith in Christ, grow in loving God. However, if you have not yet genuinely surrendered your life to God, come to Him today. Pray right now in response to the truth you learned from this lesson.
